Dehydrating oranges slices was a “new thing” my girls and I decided to do this year. It made the house smell amazing and the bonding time with my babies was priceless.
We decided to use the oven as our dehydrator and set the timer every 30 minutes to flip them. I’d recommend grabbing a note pad and checking off every turn, that way you don’t forget where you left off. I’m speaking to the choir on this one. We were racking our brains at one point trying to remember where we left off. Lol!
We did notice, around the 6th flip, that there was still juice in some of the slices, so a little more baking was required. This was because I used a knife to cut the slices, which meant they were not exactly the same in terms of their thickness. To get them perfectly even, I’d recommend using a mandolin.
You want the discs to look and feel like chips. When you press on the insides, you want them to be firm without any sign of moisture still in the flesh.
The oranges turned out lovely! They held their color very well and the process worked beautifully.
How to Make Dehydrated Orange Slices
- Preheat oven to 200°F
- Wash and dry oranges in case you want to try a nibble.
- Slice Oranges in 1/4″ – 1/8″ discs. You can use a mandolin or slice with a very sharp knife.
- Pat each slice with a paper towel to remove excess juices.
- Lay the slices flat so they do not overlap on a silicone or parchment lined cookie sheets.
- Place them in the oven for 30 minutes at a time, and then flip the slices as you go.
- Do this for 3 – 5 1/2 hours until the orange slices are completely dried out.
- Tip- If you choose to use a dehydrator, the experts say to dry 1/4″ orange slices for 8-12 hours.

P.S. A Note of Encouragement
I went to the Pop-Up PrAiZeY Christmas event hosted by the Exhilaration team, and gleaned such a powerful word as my treasured takeaway. Wow- it was such an amazing perspective shifter! Here it is:
The call of God on
your life can feel
“weighty” in every
sense of the word.
The WAIT can seem
so long before
seeing the dreams in
your heart come to
life; but with the
WAIT comes the
strength to carry the
calling. Right now
you are WEIGHT
training!
Isn’t that so good? The delay is so that you can have the strength to carry the calling and the promise. In a sense, you are weight training when you are waiting. Chew on this word and let it speak to you as the day goes on.
Be encouraged! Your dream will come to pass! In the mean time, train hard and grow strong so you are ready for when it’s birthed.
