How to Decorate a Bedroom for a Tween Girl?
When decorating a tween girl’s bedroom, the best place to start is by finding out what she loves! Ask about her favorite colors, hobbies, and style. Does she have a friend’s room she absolutely adores, or is there a store display that’s caught her eye? And, of course, what’s the budget? These little nuggets of info will be the key to creating the bedroom of her dreams!
When I spoke with Julie, she mentioned that Maddie was ready to say goodbye to her Winnie the Pooh-themed room and shared how much she loves purple, butterflies, and gaming. Julie was totally open to letting me create a mood board and bedroom design that reflected Maddie’s favorites, while also giving me the freedom to get creative and bring in some fun surprises. I was SO excited!
Create an Accent Wall
I love adding accent walls to tween and teen bedrooms! You can go with wallpaper, wall stickers, or even paint a mural or stripes using her favorite colors to make the space feel extra cozy.
For Maddie’s room, I found these stunning floral wall stickers and butterflies that would look gorgeous on the wall behind her bed. Since the stickers are a bit on the smaller side, it’d be a good idea to order a few packs to really fill the wall and give it that luxurious, full look.
Decide on the Bedding and Rug
When it comes to finding the right bedding for a girl’s room, I prefer to use simple patterns and solid prints for a more high end look. It will help her to not tire of the look as quickly, and carry her style a LOT further into her older years.
When finding just the right area rug to style in her bedroom, it’s best to find one that compliments the bedding with similar colors, and prints. In other words, you don’t want the two pieces to clash when styled next to each other.
If you have a good eye for styling prints, feel free to layer different patterns together as I did with the gray boho-styled rainbow rug and purple striped bedspread. And, if you’d rather err on the side of caution, choose one or the other to have a printed design, and the other to be a solid.
Add a Pretty Chandelier
Adding a pretty chandelier is a fabulous idea for a tween girl’s bedroom that she’ll absolutely swoon over! Just make sure it matches the room’s style and complements the other metals and colors. Go for something simple and neutral so it stays timeless as her tastes change!
Gaming Station and Study Desk
With gaming being so popular these days and homework happening almost every night, having a cute desk in her room is a must! It’ll give her the perfect spot for both activities. I came across this white and gold desk on Amazon, and instantly fell in love with it—I just had to add it to Maddie’s mood board! What do you think?
Add Some Greenery
Whether you choose real or faux plants, adding them to a tween’s bedroom always brings warmth and makes the space feel more inviting. Plants add a little touch of nature and life, which is key to creating a well-rounded and grounded design! Pun intended! LOL!
Wall Art Tips
Choosing the right wall art can be a bit tricky, but here are a few of my go-to tips:
- First, decide which walls you want to hang artwork on.
- For larger walls, think about going big with a large canvas painting or try a grouping of three side-by-side, or a grid of four (two on top, two on the bottom).
- Make sure at least one wall has stacked artwork—one piece on top of the other.
- Adding monograms of your tween’s name is a fun, personal touch.
- Don’t forget to tie the artwork and frames into the room’s theme, colors, and shades to bring everything together!
