When it comes to staging, think about where you plan on putting your tabletop firepit. If it’s going to be placed on your kitchen counter or dining room table, you can opt for a slightly larger size or consider getting more than one; especially if you are having a larger gathering.

DIY Tabletop Fire Pit for S’mores
When you decide to go the DIY route, you are either super creative and are looking for a way to let your creative juices flow, or you are looking to save money. Either way is great! DIY Fire Pit Materials Used
My ‘pit for s’mores came together so easily. That sounds so funny to me! Lol! The hardest part was shopping for the supplies, and that was really NOT that hard. The one obstacle I ran into though was trying to locate the sternos at Walmart. FYI, they were in the camping and hiking section of the store, not in the party isle or the by the food containers and foils, like I assumed.
The materials I used were as simple as 1, 2, 3.
- Platter- Homegoods
- Sternos- Walmart
- Rocks- Dollar Tree
I love to shop at Homegoods for platters and bowls. You can find such great quality pieces at very affordable prices. Hence, where my platter came from.
The rocks came from Dollar Tree. The rock bags seemed to have gotten smaller, but you can still find a decent size there. Understanding every Dollar Tree’s stock and supplies can vary, the one I went to had a couple different rock color bundles to chose from. This made it convenient to pick out the rock colors that best matched my home décor.
DIY Fire Pit Assembly
As for the assembling of the products, I started with the platter and staged it how I wanted it to be laid out; arranged the sterno disks on top; sprinkled in 2 bags of rocks (enough to fill the platter and enough to hide most of the disks), and voila, a beautiful and cost effective DIY tabletop fire pit.
When everything is set just the way you like it, pop off the sterno caps and light the gel. Keep in mind, you will probably hear a “whoosh” sound when you light the gel, but you might not see a flame. Even if you don’t, the gel is most likely still lit and will get very hot super quickly.
To snuff out the fire from a sternos, gently place the tin lid over the top. Do not push down because you don’t want there to be a pressure build-up. Safety first!

P.S. Note of Encouragement
No matter what you you are going through right now, this too shall pass and you WILL overcome. I am so preaching to the choir as I type this encouraging word. Sometimes we have to encourage ourselves until we see victory come.
A favorite pastor of mine, from Bethel Church in Redding California, says this phrase regularly, “If it’s not good, it’s not over.” This is one of those quotes I cling to as a life raft while riding the waves life throws my way. Can you relate?
It feels like a lot, sometimes! I’m not gonna lie. There are days when I feel like I can’t handle situations and I’m literally yelling to God, “I can’t handle this!” Can you relate?
The good news is that the Word of God doesn’t lie. It says in Romans 8:28, “All things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose.” I’m so grateful that “if it’s not good, it’s not over.”
Take the hard circumstance you might be facing today and bring it before God. Tell him what’s on your heart and how much you are struggling. Share with Him your thoughts and feelings as you walk through it. He wants to guide your steps, encourage you in the process, and give you peace and hope.
I declare peace, hope, guidance, and encouragement over you! May you keep running your race, never quite, stay the course, and WIN your victory.
