Should Students Eat Breakfast Before School?
These days are very different from the old-school way of thinking that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. While I love a good breakfast and so do my girls, if they are not hungry before we go to school, I do not push the breakfast topic. Since they eat a snack about an hour after school begins, we like to look at that time as being their breakfast. Plus, we’ve learned that the health benefits from times of intermittent fasting are enormous.
I say all of that to say, even though we might not always eat breakfast, my girls are very excited to eat some celebratory foods on their first day of school. LOL!
School Breakfast Board Design Tips and Ideas
- Keep hot food away from food that might get soggy or melt, such as cheese or crackers.
- Arrange the food in rows or clusters on your platter.
- Try to keep foods with similar colors away from each other for a more full and professional look.
- Lay out the cold foods on your platter the night before (to make things easier), and cover it with plastic wrap before placing in the fridge.
- While your kids are getting ready for school, cook or heat the “hot” foods and add them in layers to your special back to school breakfast board.
- Speak words of life and encouragement to your kids while they eat and enjoy every bite.
- Cut out the words, back to school, or your kid’s names out of cheese slices, and place the words on top of your board.
- Add back to school breakfast decorations such as books, rulers, and balloons to the space around your charcuterie board, in school colors such as smart apple red, bookworm green, intelligent navy blue, and bright future yellow.

Pack in the Protein
Protein is an essential nutrient that helps keep your kiddo’s bellies full longer so their minds can stay focused on learning. When creating your kid’s special breakfast board, you can include food options such as protein pancakes, peanut butter protein balls, eggs, sausage, and bacon so they have the fuel they need to put their best foot forward.
Healthy Fats for Brain Food
Consuming healthy fats encourages neurotransmitter production, which plays a VERY important role in learning and memory. By adding in foods such as egg yolks, meats, cheeses, grass-fed butter, and avocado, you are aiding your little one’s brain in growing healthy and strong.
Eating good fats, similar to eating protein, will help keep them feeling full and prevent their blood sugar from having crashes or a case of “hangry” when they feel angry because they are hungry.
Include their Favorites
You know your babies best. If they love to eat a particular food in the morning, it would be wonderful to include it on your back to school breakfast board. If it’s not very healthy, maybe offer it in moderation. That way they start off the day with mostly good brain food to fuel their learning. ๐
Fiber is Fabulous
There are many health benefits to eating a diet high in fiber. From lowering the risk of diabetes to maintaining a healthy gut and helping with bowel movements (sorry for the TMI), fiber is very important to have in a healthy diet. So, feel free to grab those fruits, nuts, seeds, whole grains, and more, and pack in the goodness on your special breakfast board.

P.S. Note of Encouragement
Do you have dreams in your heart that you have yet to see come true? How is your heart in the waiting season? If you are discouraged and frustrated with the delay, I can totally relate to how you feel. I’m working through it myself. Proverbs 13:12 calls this place, hope differed. Major delays and unanswered prayers can affect so many aspects of our lives.
I’d love to encourage you in the waiting period. There are a few key things I have been focusing on in this season that I’d love to share, as I’m starting to see beautiful changes occur.
First, bring the desires of your heart, the “issues”, or the “things” that are heavy on your heart before God. Ask Him to forgive you for believing any lies from the enemy and unknowingly agreeing with those lies.
Next, ask God to cleanse you from anything generationally that might be holding back your destiny or seeing answers to prayer.
Then, ask Him to silence the voice of the enemy on your behalf and to forgive you of any yuck (sin) in your heart.
Finally, thank Him for the cross and His forgiveness. Quote scripture and particular words from the Lord that He has spoken to you over the years and ask God to bring them to fruition.
I believe and declare that you WILL see answers to prayer come, and your heart WILL be restored and encouraged as you bring these things before the Lord and spend time with Him.
