It’s time to celebrate! 🎉 Happy birthday to your sweet fur baby! If you want to make a cake for your fur baby, but he/she has a poultry sensitivity like our sweet Boxer boy, Thorton Walter, this delicious dog cake without eggs is the perfect option. It’s super easy to make, oh-so-yummy, and sure to be a hit with your precious pooch. After we gave Thor a piece, he kept going up to the refrigerator and crying for more. LOL! Thor’s Health Update
Many of you know that when we adopted Thor from our breeder, he had a grade-five heart murmur. The cardiologist and another veterinarian advised us to put him down immediately. We were devastated by the news, as he was the first dog our girls ever had.
Despite the prognosis, we decided to trust the process, believe in God’s healing, and keep our boy as long as God allowed. On May 26th, he turned two years old. 🎉
Although he still has a lot of food sensitivities (we’re working on healing his gut and welcome any advice), he is doing very well and enjoying life. Everyone says he’s spoiled, and I’m okay with that. We love our guy and are so grateful the Lord placed him in our care. He brings life to our family. 🤎
We pray over him regularly and take communion with him (he eats the wafer while my girls and I drink the grape juice) nearly every week. He’s on a very low dose of Atenolol for his heart and takes omegas, milk thistle, L-glutamine, a clean heart support supplement, and a digestive powder with probiotics to support his system.
How to Make a Dog Cake Without Eggs
1. Preheat Oven to 350°F
Heat up that oven, friends! The yumminess is about to come together!
2. Combine All Ingredients
Combine the oat flour, pumpkin, applesauce, almond butter, honey, baking soda, salt, and baking powder in a medium size bowl and blend using an electric mixer.
3. Pour Cake Batter into Cake Pans and Bake
Spray and coat with oat flower, two 6″ round pans. I only had one pan so I repeated this process, twice. Then divide the cake batter in half and pour equal parts into each pan. Bake on middle rack at 350°F for about 30 minutes or until center is no longer mushy, and an inserted toothpick comes out clean.
4. Cake Cooling Time
Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and allow to cool for about 15 minutes before flipping over and placing on a cooling rack. Allow to fully cool before adding the frosting.
5. Make the Frosting
Combine the Greek yogurt, almond butter, and honey with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
6. Frost that Cake
Frost your fur baby’s cake in any way that makes your heart happy. I grabbed a large piping tip, and my Wilson piping bag, and frosted Thor’s cake until I loved the way it looked. Then, I sprinkled a little bit of cinnamon over the #2 to add some color so it would stand out.
What Kind of Cake Can a Dog Eat
If you’re wondering, “Can I give plain cake to my dog?”, it’s best to avoid sharing human-grade sweet treats. Cakes often contain ingredients that can upset a dog’s digestive system. For example, our dog Thor cannot have any poultry, and most cakes contain eggs. Instead, opt for homemade dog cakes, like this one, made with ingredients your dog can tolerate. Alternatively, you can use a dog cake box mix if you’re short on time.
Here are some great options to consider. Tip- you can replace egg ingredients with applesauce. Click here for the conversion details.
What Frosting is Safe for Dogs
The best and safest frostings for your dog’s cake include simple, clean ingredients like unsweetened yogurt, nut butter, honey, maple syrup, and tapioca starch.
How to Store a Dog Cake Without Eggs
To store your egg-free dog cake, keep it in a sealed container in the refrigerator. This will help it stay moist and prevent the frosting from drying out and cracking.
