You can keep things super simple with decorations, or you can go a bit more elaborate with embellishments if you have a little extra time to plan the details. If I’m planning an event, such as a special dinner party, festive holiday gathering, or a significant birthday celebration, I like to begin brainstorming about a month in advance. This prevents me from feeling rushed and provides ample time to gather supplies, plan the menu, and set everything up.

3. Decide on an Inspiration Piece

While in the brainstorming process, like for this silver and gold table, for instance, I like to find an inspirational piece around which I can coordinate all the table decorations. The inspiration piece for this tablescape was the silver table runner with snowflake embellishments. This gave me the snowflake theme inspiration, which led me to discover the ornaments, the tablecloth, and all the other elements that would complement the rest of the décor.
