1. Give Yourself Enough Time to Plan
When it comes to creating an amazing tablescape, it takes time to plan, prepare, and assemble. You can keep things super simple with decorations, or you can go a bit more elaborate with embellishments if you have a little extra time to plan the details. Either way you choose to go, remember to style your table in a way that suits your timeframe, lifestyle, and, most importantly, brings joy to your heart. When you’re excited about your tablescape masterpiece, your guests will love it just as much.
If I’m planning an event, such as a special dinner party, festive holiday gathering, or a significant birthday celebration, I like to begin brainstorming about a month in advance. This prevents me from feeling rushed and provides ample time to gather supplies, plan the menu, and set everything up.
For the tablescape itself, in this case, my silver and gold Christmas table, I prefer to stage it about a week in advance. This allows me to enjoy the beautiful view in my dining room for a little longer and gives me more time and freedom to handle other preparations for the dinner party.
2. Peruse Pinterest for Silver and Gold Christmas Inspiration
Browsing through Pinterest will provide you with a wealth of silver and gold Christmas table decorations, ideas, and inspiration. I personally enjoy beginning my brainstorming process on that platform, as well as in retail stores.
On Pinterest, I search for several different pictures that resonate with me, align with my desired color scheme, and are within my budget to assemble. Often, this means I seek inspiration with similar decorations to what I already own. This approach helps reduce costs, saves time, and ultimately minimizes the need for additional storage space.
When perusing retail stores, I enjoy browsing the shelves and incorporating a few of the latest trends. Trends are a bit of a passion of mine. Hehe! Well, maybe a BIG passion, but I do tend to opt for pieces with a timeless look if they happen to be on the pricier side.
3. Decide on an Inspiration Piece
While in the brainstorming process, like for this silver and gold table, for instance, I like to find an inspirational piece around which I can coordinate all the table decorations. The inspiration piece for this tablescape was the silver table runner with snowflake embellishments. This gave me the snowflake theme inspiration, which led me to discover the ornaments, the tablecloth, and all the other elements that would complement the rest of the décor.
4. Don’t Forget About the Sparkle
Christmas is the time when we get to break out all those festive, sparkly decorations. Whether it’s a shimmery silver Christmas tablecloth or elegant, glittery ornaments, you have complete permission to showcase the bling on your silver and gold table setting.
5. Decorate in Layers
When decorating a Christmas table, layering fabrics, textures, and decorations will create a fuller and more visually appealing look. Starting with a tablecloth as your base, you can add a table runner or placemats on top, depending on your desired look and style. From there, consider placing chargers or larger plates beneath the dinner plates and adding textured salad plates and soft linen napkins on top to enhance depth.
By adding finishing touches, like textured votive holders, sparkly ornaments, and elevating the layers in your centerpiece, you will have a beautifully dressed table that brings the song “Deck the Halls” to life.
6. Silver and Gold Christmas Table Centerpieces
Select a stunning centerpiece that will bring your table together perfectly. Opt for something slightly larger to achieve the WOW-factor in an elegant silver and gold Christmas table. You can choose a larger hurricane glass vase, as I did, or go with something entirely different, like a beautiful boxwood garland cascading down the middle with silver and gold ornaments nestled among the leaves.

7. Add a Dessert or Hors D’oeuvres to the Tablescape
I LOVE using food as “décor” in my tablescapes. It provides guests with something to nibble on as I’m finishing dinner prep or something deliciously beautiful to look forward to as they enjoy their meal. Either way you go, adding food can bring an extra layer of beauty, style, and elegance to your Christmas table decorations.
