Quick Easter Back Story
I’m so thankful we can get together and spend time again with family and friends for Easter. It has certainly made us more appreciative of being in the presence of other humans after experiencing covid. A couple of years ago, I’m sure you can remember with me, we were having our Easter dinner via Zoom with extended family.
This reality made all of us have to rethink our Easter hosting ideas. The tastes and smells were certainly not the same being miles away from loved ones. Thankful for technology though in the midst! It certainly helped us get through those hard times.
Easter is a time when we reflect on the cross of Jesus Christ. He was beautifully broken for you and for me. “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for a friend.” John 15:13 For that, I will be eternally grateful! As we remember the sacrifice and celebrate His resurrection, we will be able to do so with our beautiful family by our side this year.
Easter Plans
We will start the celebration with my husband’s family on Easter Saturday by getting together for dinner and Easter fun. My mother and father in “love” are amazing cooks, so their foods never disappoint even the pickiest eaters.
Our girls love going to Grammy’s house for the holiday because she always has kid-approved yummies and sweet baskets stuffed with treats, fidgets, and special requested gifts my girls asked for off of their “wish lists.” Can they do that? When I was a kid, I did not know that Easter was sort of like Christmas when it comes to gift requests. Must be nice!
Outdoor Easter Hosting Décor Idea
On Easter Sunday we will be celebrating at our home. I like to start the day by doing a little family tradition of ours. Have you ever heard of Egg Lawn Décor? This is when we cover the front yard in a fun assortment of decorative Easter eggs, for our girls to see first thing when they wake up. These remain unstuffed, but my girls know that the egg hunt with the goodies happens just after lunch.
The lawn eggs put a smile on everyone’s face. I love to find a way to make any party start outside when our guests pull up. Sometimes it’s an outdoor happy birthday sign, a door banner, streamers, lawn signs, or in this case, Egg Lawn Décor. A former neighbor of ours used to scatter eggs around like this and it inspired me to carry on the tradition. Feel free to take the idea for your family too.
Easter Basket Hosting Ideas
The hunt for their Easer Baskets comes after the big outside egg reveal, and then on to opening them faster than I could stuff ‘em. Do your kiddos do that too? I mean, they can’t rip off the cellophane fast enough to get to the goodies. But I sure do enjoy seeing their faces light up when they see the treasures inside. For their Easter baskets this year, here was my inspiration list:
· Chocolate cross
· Favorite sweet candy treats
· Propel drink
· Fanny pack
· Playdough
· Hair clips
· Headband
· Tee Shirt
· Shorts
· Necklace
· Socks
· Paint
· Nail polish
· Makeup
· Lotion
· Face scrub
· Stuffed bunny
· Egg-shaped gum
Are you like me with wanting fresh ideas for what to put in your kid’s baskets each year? I hope this helps give you a few ideas to incorporate.
Easter Hosting Food Ideas
After the basket exploration, we enjoy going to church and remembering the resurrection of our Savior. It never gets old to me. I pray for our hearts to grow softer and softer as we learn about His great love for us.
Then afterwards, my side of the family will be coming over for a late lunch and egg hunt. This year, we will be serving:
· Honey glazed ham
· Cheesy potato casserole
· Hot cross buns
· Honey thyme carrots
· Coleslaw
· English pea salad
· Macaroni and cheese
· Deviled eggs
· Homemade bread (Recipe)
Can you just imagine this with me, walking in for Easter dinner and being welcomed by the smell of fresh homemade bread? Forget Calgon! It’s like Panera take me away! For dessert, we will serve an infamous cream cheese carrot cake, and I’m sure the kiddos will be enjoying their well-deserved candy from their hard day’s work of egg hunting.
Easter Hosting Tablescape Ideas
Ok! Let’s talk Easter hosting ideas for your tablescape. I’ve always found it best to stage the table up to a week ahead of time when it comes to entertaining. No one likes to be stressed with too much to do on the day of the holiday. I always have just enough “on my plate,” pun intended, with heating the food and picking up the last few crumbs my girls have decided to save for me.
As for the food, I like to prepare and cook most of it, a day or two before the gathering. This helps the day of the event to reflect the Commodores song, “Easy Like Sunday Morning.”
If you are a tulip fan, I have the best Easter hosting idea for your flowers. These tulips are AMAZING! I just love adding them to an Easter tablescape when I can; they are a favorite spring flower of mine. Can you believe these are faux?
Mandy’s Store on Amazon knocked these out-of-the-park. The detail is amazing and I’m super impressed with the quality. Investing in faux flowers is a good way to save money in the long run, because they can be used year after year. It helps to find some that look as close to real as possible. These definitely do!
Another Easter hosting idea is to use white-water pots as your vases to create a supreme Spring ambiance. If you have another type of white vase or even a clear fishbowl, those would look equally as beautiful and create a similar look. My motto is, “When you can, use what you have.”
The crisp white tablecloth is not only practical because it protects the table from scratches, but it also adds a beautiful blank canvas you can build upon. The Threshold Collection from Target has some of my favorite linen tablecloths. The colors and textures are always amazing and they hold up very well after multiple washes.
I incorporated a boho-style table runner in the 2022 color of the year, sage green. I love the classic timeless Easter Tablescape decor, but it’s always fun to add in those pieces that are trending to help keep things fresh.
Every place setting has a simple yet chic rattan charger and makes this Easter hosting idea resemble Easter baskets. Each one is topped with bone china dinner plates and basket-weave-style salad plates.
To add a bit of Easter flare, I scattered faux speckled eggs within my color scheme on top of the table runner for an added embellishment. Another fun idea for incorporating Easter eggs is to place individual egg cups filled with grasses and Cadbury Mini Eggs or Jelly Beans. Then place them on top of each salad plate.
Easter Hosting Votive Idea
Ohhh, can we just stop the train right here for a second? My favorite addition to this Easter tablescape is the blush pink votives. They are the perfect Easter hosting idea for your votives. This set came in multiple shapes and sizes, perfect for adding texture, height variations, and sparkle from the warmth of the candles tucked away inside.
Thinking beyond these blush pink votives, another option would be to layer in clear glass candle holders, with tiny pink tea light candles peeking through. Keep in mind, that you can always add some of the pieces you might be dreaming about, to your Christmas and Birthday wish lists. Or, maybe to your Easter wish list?
Make this Easter, one that is staged for good conversation, yummy food, and a beautiful ambiance. Keep in mind, if you don’t have all of the supplies you desire, remember you can always modify to fit your budget and recourses. If need be, borrow supplies from a friend or family member.
You can make anything beautiful if you make it intentional. Your guests will see your efforts and feel extra special because you put forth the effort. My friends, please know this Easter season, that God loved you so much, He went to the cross with you on His mind.
